Presentation Title: “Effectively Harnessing AI for Writing Instruction”

Effectively Harnessing AI for Writing Instruction
Summary

This workshop is designed to shed light on ways educators in multiple grade and content levels can harness AI tools during writing instruction. Educators will learn how to co-exist with AI while preserving critical thinking skills, academic integrity, and transparency.

Description

This workshop will likely attract ELA teachers that are more directly involved in writing instruction. However, the workshop would also benefit teachers in other domains that are encouraged to engage students in writing, but may not feel equipped with specific training on writing instruction.
During the workshop, participants will complete 4 tasks:
1. Draft guidelines for a writing task using AI
2. Generate a rubric using AI
3. Design an interactive Space where students will engage with the writing task
4. Use a grading assistant to create a link students can use to receive specific feedback aligned to the writing rubric.
This workshop will require teachers to use a free SchoolAI account to complete the tasks. Using this Gen-AI wrapper will provide teachers access to student transcripts and allow teachers to create specific boundaries around the AI-use.
Participants will leave with a document that details the comprehensive writing task they designed for their classroom.
