Presentation Title: “Complying with DOJ's Final Ruling on Digital Accessibility”
Learn how to prepare your state or local government agency for the Department of Justice's new digital accessibility requirements. This session covers WCAG 2.1 compliance standards, implementation timelines, and practical strategies for meeting the April 2026 deadline.
In 2024, the Department of Justice issued a final rule on regulations related to Title II of the ADA for state and local governments. State and local organizations with constituent bases over 50,000 must comply in April of 2026, and those with fewer must comply in April 2027. I've presented on this topic many times, attend roundtables on the topic with federal and state counterparts, and regularly provide consulting to groups within the WV public education system. Many of these organizations do not understand the ruling and therefore do not understand how comprehensive compliance must be and how cultural changes in their organization must take place in order to remain within compliance standards.
