Presentation Title: “Traveling through the TIM Matrix”
Step into our time machine to journey with us to visit outdated ways of learning and bring them up-to-speed via the Technology Integration Matrix. Experience multiple ways of utilizing technology to help students build critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration skills.
Calling all educators to the time machine: teachers, coaches, principals, and mentors of all levels will not want to miss this! Have you ever struggled to integrate technology in intentional and authentic ways? Well, you are not alone, as many educators are often lacking the confidence and training needed in order to implement technology effectively into the classroom. In this presentation, we take traditional ways of learning (flashcards, dioramas, essays, and more) and refresh them with new emerging technologies. This presentation includes an introduction to the research-backed framework of the Technology Integration Matrix (TIM). Developed by the Florida Center for Instructional Technology (FCIT), TIM describes and targets how to integrate technology to enhance learning. Attendees will view and practice aligning traditional classroom activities to meet the TIM levels and characteristics in an interactive, gamified style. For example, presenters will show an outdated activity, such as flashcards, and then demonstrate how an innovative technological tool, such as Flashcard Factory, can transform and improve students' learning through multiple modalities, repetition, and collaboration. Participants will also have the opportunity for hands-on application of the TIM planning process. Educators will walk away with a deeper understanding of how to bring their own lessons into the future using TIM, who will be their “tech guide.”
