Description

This presentation delves into the concept of mental mapping, exploring its significance and applications.
It begins with an introduction to mental mapping.

The presentation then provides a background and history of cognitive maps, introduced in 1948 by psychologist Edward Tolman. Examples of mental maps drawn by various individuals from different neighborhoods in New York City are showcased.

A comparison of mental maps between Boston and Manhattan is presented along with an examination of the organic growth of Boston's streets as an example over time and the organic growth of Citizens over the years.

The presentation then explores ways to unravel mental maps and discusses developing simpler mental maps by organizing objects by using collections and visual icons. It then provides actual elements, using accounts, transactions, and addresses as examples to help organize an online experience.

Then the presentation addresses the elements of a component and the four basic questions a UX Designer and Product Manager need to ask to ensure a successful design.

Then I give a real-world problem on a smaller scale, applying the abstract design. It concludes with sources and references for further reading 14
