Presentation Title: “Detezo + Phone-Free Schools”
This presentation will introduce Detezo (detezo.com) and provide background on common school feedback, sentiment, and concerns regarding phone policies in schools. The intent is to offer a free alternative to current solutions (Ex: Pouches) and help better understand and address their policy needs.
Introduction: Relate presentation specifically to West Virginia audience via HB 2003 that prohibits the use of phones in WV classrooms
Problems: Identify current issues with phone policies, namely the cost and involvement to enforce them
Solutions: Introduce Detezo as a free alternative to existing solutions and school pain points
Considerations: Identify considerations with Detezo, other solutions, and challenges with phone-free schools regardless of the defined policies and solutions
Open Forum: Address questions, feedback, and concerns on Detezo and phone-free schools
Ultimately, the abstract of my presentation is to address the ongoing challenges and offer solutions to schools facing similar dilemmas to this:
"He said there’s a big expense that comes with these pouches, though, and the school system simply does not have the means to acquire them for every school at this point in time." - Kanawha County School Board President

Presenter Information
I created Detezo, a free mobile application that uses QR codes to enforce phone-free schools. While I work in technology, my stake in education stems from a mother who was a principal and teacher for 35+ years and brother who teaches in high school. I noticed the issue where states are pursuing and mandating phone-free school policies, yet solutions are limited and often expensive. I'm speaking on this topic to introduce a free, alternative solution that doesn't introduce financial constraints.
